Aviation Fuel
Did you know that aviation fuel is exactly the same as home heating fuel?
So, when the inevitable shortage of petroleum-based products happens,
which would you prefer - to heat your home for six months or go on a short
break weekend to the sun?
To make matters worse, aircraft are not designed to land with large
amounts of fuel still in their tanks and so, as they always carry more than is
required in case of problems or diversions, fuel-dumping is quite commonplace.
To make matters worse, if they have to make an emergency landing shortly after
take-off, they have to dump the whole lot!
Where do they dump fuel? Usually over water but in emergencies, they
dump it anywhere - have you ever noticed the derelict garden centre by the M23
spur road to Gatwick airport!
All this short-sighted selfishness means that we are running headlong
into a disaster and no-one is doing anything about it! Expanding airports will
only lead to an enormous waste of good land in the future.
