Story helps to put the child into the context of the problem. It engages the child in the fantasy of the problem. Experience in meeting different problems and learning and applying different strategies to problem solving requires a lot of practice. Story is often an easier way to remember a problem type or refer back to it. Story has a very long tradition of being used for teaching and the process of using and making their own story aids the child's ability to explain and tell their own story or problem. Story types are endless and because of their flexibility can be used again and again to contextualise problems of any sort.
